The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday it continues to record abnormal activities at Taal Volcano in Batangas.
For the past 24 hours, Phivolcs said at least five volcanic quakes were detected at Taal. Weak steaming activity was also observed at the thermal area of the volcano’s main crater lake.
Phivolcs reiterated its warning on carbon dioxide in the area, saying gas measurements in March amounted to 4,670 tons per day or double the 2,250 tons per day in January.
“The remarkable increase in carbon dioxide concentration indicates anomalous gas release from the magma at depth,” it said.
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over Taal volcano, with no imminent eruption although the public was advised to strictly observe safety precautions.
